It has been a few months since I've sent out an updater, because I've been really busy. I'm grateful that I now have some time to take a breath and I am hoping that I can connect with old friends and new communities as I plan my calendar for 2019-2020 school year. Thanks for being interested enough to read this update. Personally- I had another baby :) ! It was a super rough pregnancy and I'm glad that I got through it with a lot of support. I joined the chaotic club of having 3 kids 3 and under and I've learned a whole new level of skills related to delegation, multi-tasking and assessing priorities.

Professionally, I have been doing lots of jobs that are flexible so that I can work while enjoying spending time with my own tiny Jews. I am SUPER grateful that I've been able to work with clients and colleagues primarily from home. The projects I've been working on include:

  • Creating a custom Jewish Family Jams curriculum and training to a community seeking to serve their families with 0-3 year olds through play-based musical programs
  • Serving as interim director of Gratz College's NEXT program facilitating professional development for Jewish educators through asynchronous, online courses
  • Consulting with Temple Judea in Coral Springs to help their staff and leadership explore, evaluate and expand how they invite young children and families to engage in their community
  • Planning a Weekend Residency at B'nai Israel in Gainesville, FL to help prepare their community to celebrate the High Holydays in meaningful ways
  • Continuing to manage, the world's largest searchable database of Jewish educational resources Teaching graduate college courses online in a secular M.Ed. program (that has been a stretch for me, and I've really enjoyed it) Leading Tot Shabbat programs and facilitating PD workshops for Jewish professionals around the engagement of children and families in South Florida
  • Traveling to Chicago to be interviews for a documentary about Jewish education that will premier in the fall
  • Designing Jew-ish gear and gifts (mainly because I want them for my kids) at
SO- I'm looking to line up a few more projects. I paused briefly on recruiting travel gigs, but now I'm ready (and for the next couple months, Libby will tag along) to use all the data I gathered when I finished my doctoral research last year and the experience I've gained working in such diverse capacities to explore relationships and visit communities (in person and from a distance) as a consultant, educator, musician and early childhood advocate. If you are interested in improving and increasing the ways your Jewish community invites young children and their families to engage in meaningful, joyful learning and living- reply to this email so we can find a time to talk about your goals and how I might be able to help you reach them.

Shabbat Shalom!!! Emily
